Mushroom growing at George Street Community Bookshop!
This is a FREE demo/short workshop – but you need to book to secure a place.
--
Join artist/writer Michelle Collier for a mushroom-growing workshop in the bookshop, as part of her MYCOMYTHOPOEIA project.
Come along to try your hand at mushroom growing, chat about creative recycling and feed our human stories (in book form) back to the non-human network!
Rather than growing mushrooms as food, this workshop is all about mushrooms as ART. We’ll be turning old books into evolving, organic sculptures – part story, part fungi.
After the workshop you’ll have the option to take your project home with you, or leave it with the mushroom mother.
The workshop is just one part of a greater piece of collective activity. So, once your mushrooms begin to sprout, we’d like to exhibit your ‘sculpture’ back in the bookshop as inspiration for ongoing activities.
Absolute beginners welcome. Michelle is new to mushroom growing, too – so let’s explore and get creative together!
Books and mushroom materials will be provided.

ABOUT THE RESIDENCY
This event is part of MYCOMYTHOPOEIA – an artist residency at George Street Community Bookshop, exploring the bookshop through the lens of mycorrhizal networks. Across October and November, Michelle will be inviting the local community to reimagine the bookshop through the lens of mushrooms and mycelium – where stories, ideas and knowledge are what nourishes the bookshop network. And where the ‘fruiting bodies’ are our collective creative outputs. To find out more, visit Michelle’s website: https://www.mickeypip.com/post/mycomythopoiea-an-artist-residency
