A summer of success for Glossop!

January 26, 2023

Although the recent national announcement forced a few plans to change at the last minute, Glossop hasn't let the extended restrictions get in the way of showcasing the brilliant talent we have in the town. And, despite some recent indoor events being postponed due to the easing of the lockdown measures, Glossop has played host to some fabulous events over the last week or so. We are set to see some more, too, which should sustain our spirits until the later date at the end of the month when the final restrictions are lifted.

Busking and Brass - a day of brilliant music on Saturday

Last Saturday saw a wonderful pop-up busking and brass event in the town centre, which brought some much-needed joy and celebration to Glossop after the recent announcements.

The Dark Peak Music Foundation was invited by Glossop Creates and the Love Glossop Support Local campaign to bring its unique brand of music to Norfolk Square. The Foundation is a vibrant, innovative and ambitious music centre, which welcomes young musicians from Glossop and other towns in the High Peak. The Foundation is committed to providing the best opportunities for young people to develop their interest in music and the lasting friendships that grow out of making music together.

The Dark Peak Concert Band Brass Ensemble performed a sparkling programme which included The Final Countdown, Mr. Blue Sky, The Lord of the Rings and How to Train Your Dragon. If you missed it live, you can see some of the performance here...

The concert was Dark Peak Music Foundation's first live performance since December 2019, and a great time was had by all.

Celebrating local creativity

It was also fabulous to see events such as Tintwistle Gala hosting some of Glossop's amazing makers last Saturday. These grassroots events increase the reach and accessibility of quality arts and crafts in the area, which is always great to see.

The Love Glossop Support Local campaign - spearheaded by Glossop Creates and Dark Peak Press - is bringing the town together as we emerge from challenging times, and we love how the town and the high street are being used as a canvas for creativity and community activity.

Please visit our events section to find out more about what's coming up for the town, and - if you're interested in joining the Glossop Creates network events - which include art, music, the creative industry and food and drink, do get in touch with Steven at steven@glossopcreates.com to find out more.
