In partnership with the county's district and borough councils, Derbyshire has launched a new way for its communities to browse, book and buy local online, as part of a scheme to support towns and villages across the county.
What is ShopAppy?
ShopAppy.com is a ‚"Shop and Support Local" website supported and backed by VISA, which makes it super easy for people to browse, book and buy from local businesses at their convenience. With convenience with a local conscience as its ethos, ShopAppy.com's mission isn't to create more online shoppers, but to create a community of local shoppers that can opt to shop in the way that they choose.
Why should I use ShopAppy?
The UK's high streets are under threat and physical spend is quickly moving online. This trend, of course, has been hugely accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, and now an incredible £3 in every £5 is being spent with larger online retailers like Amazon.
ShopAppy.com plans to disrupt this behaviour by providing shoppers with all the products and lovely independent shops in their area - a one-stop-local-online-shop! Implementing Click and Collect and a single delivery service, ShopAppy makes it easier than ever for people to support their local economy and their favourite businesses - which is a sure fire way to preserve the uniqueness and character of a town.
The Cabinet Member for Clean Growth and Regeneration, Councillor Tony King, said:
"It's a critical time for small, independent retailers, many of whom do not have the money or knowhow to sell their products on the internet.
"That's why the county council is supporting this project - to throw a digital lifeline to our high streets by offering local businesses free online subscription to ShopAppy.com for 12 months to help open themselves and their customers up to an alternative way of doing business."
How can local businesses get on board?
ShopAppy.com aims to make it as easy as possible for businesses to get on board. The vendor dashboard is extremely easy to use and the ShopAppy.com team is always on hand to help. ShopAppy doesn't take any commissions on sales, instead the initiative makes 2% on card processing fees, and - what's more - ShopAppy.com has partnered with High Peak Borough Council to offer FREE use of the platform for 12 months to all businesses in the High Peak towns of Glossop, New Mills, Chapel, Whaley Bridge and Buxton, to support them at this crucial time.
It is open to all High Peak businesses and for click and collect services, and businesses can choose which town to align with.
