Works by Glossop-based artist, Jean Hobson, are on display at Manchester Central Library in a new exhibition entitled From Millworkers to Millennials.

Jean's artworks have been inspired by the extraordinary changes in Manchester that have seen old buildings replaced or repurposed, and celebrates the dramatic transformation of the city's ever-changing and evolving skyline over recent years.

Jean said: "The exhibition is a selection of the paintings, screen prints and drawings that I have been doing over the past fifteen years, on the changes taking place in Manchester as it goes through its second Industrial revolution.

"I have recorded old buildings, sometimes just prior to them being demolished and have tried to remain unsentimental about the often beautiful but outdated buildings as they are reduced to dust. Then I have marvelled at the ingenuity and amazing new materials of the new buildings that replace them.  

"The exhibition is a mixture of pencil drawings and screen prints of the old building, and large, colourful Gouache paintings of various aspects of the city.  

"The exhibition, which is on the first floor of Central Library, was officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Manchester last Thursday and is on until 17 December 2022. It can be seen during Central Library opening times which are :

Monday- Thursday 9.00- 20.00  

Friday-Saturday 9.00 - 17.00, and is free to attend.
