Glossop Creates and KIN.DER - Meet the Team!

January 26, 2023

Glossop Creates was born in December 2020 after a consultation with local creatives found a growing requirement for support. Since its launch, the collective has grown and it now provides an online 'home' for the town's creative talent and independent businesses, as well as an outlet to sell their products, a twice-yearly network meeting and a regular pipeline of content via a blog, the Glossop Chronicle and the wider regional media.

In 2021, Glossop Creates moved into a new home at KIN.DER on Arundel Street and can now further support the community with a location for workshops and a hub for the team.

We are always looking for new ways to support and empower Glossop's creatives, as well as promote and bolster the wide range of independent businesses and makers who call our beautiful town home. As such, we wanted to introduce the team to enable further links and encourage collaboration.

Claire Tymon - founder

The founder of Glossop Creates, Claire is passionate about creative-led placemaking projects, finding ways and creating opportunities for artists and creatives to make their town or city more successful and sustainable. After working in different places across the UK, Claire thought it time to support her home town with a project designed to bring the creative community together to lead the change it wants to see for Glossop.

Since launching Glossop Creates, Claire has gone on to spearhead the Pairings projects, which see local artists and creatives paired up with projects that explore parts of Glossop's heritage and culture.

Mum of two Claire juggles Glossop Creates with other placemaking projects, most recently launching the InTameside project with her new company, LOCAL - and is also studying for a PHD.   Get in touch with Claire with any wider ideas for creative campaigns in and around Glossop - claire@wearelocal.org.uk

Steven Dexter - Community Producer

Steven has been the Community Producer for Glossop Creates since January 2021. He is responsible for delivering the wider projects such as the Love Glossop Winter Art Trail, which saw the high street turned into a festive art gallery over Christmas, as well as the mentoring programme, artist residencies and network meetings. Watch this space for announcements on all these parts of the Glossop Creates programme...

Steven comes from a varied background in the arts, from managing music venues in Manchester to working in community arts centres, arts logistics companies and set painting for films. He also recently worked on the curatorial team at Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Steven continually strives to help connect Glossop's creative community with each other and businesses in the town, to further realise its huge potential as a cultural hub at the gateway to the Peaks. In November, Steven left YSP to co-found Local with Claire Tymon. They deliver projects across the North of England and are in the process of hiring a Producer or other Creative Associate to help with their projects. This will mean a slight role change for Steven in Glossop, where he will focus more on the curation, strategy and development of Glossop Creates.
