GLOSSOP MUSIC FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES SPRING CONCERT

March 24, 2025

Glossop Music Festival has announced its Spring Concert on Friday 28th March at 7pm in St James’ Church, Old Glossop, featuring the fantastic Apollo Saxophone Quartet and offering an exciting evening of music, film - and vintage cartoons!

Claire Surman, leader of Glossop Music Festival's artistic team, said, “This will be a unique and special event, with two contrasting halves. Firstly, we’ll hear five new works, specially commissioned for the Apollo’s 40th season, each showcasing different aspects of the quartet’s highly distinctive sound world.

“This will be followed by a world-premiere with the screening of a handpicked selection of vintage cartoons, some dating from as early as 1928, with live music brilliantly re-orchestrated from the original scores and performed by the members of the quartet.”

Having been at the forefront of the British contemporary music scene for over 35 years, the quartet has made the largest single contribution to the saxophone quartet repertoire in the UK.

The new commissions are: Clare Cope Trapped, Dani Howard Neverland, Jenni Watson Radius 1 & 2, Grace-Evangeline Mason In the Fragrant Air, and Adam Caird Saxophonic Movements. The cartoons featured will beThe Haunted Mouse, The Fox Hunt, Lady Play Your Mandolin, and The Impatient Patient.

Glossop Music Festival Spring Concert, “Looney Tunes with the Apollo Saxophone Quartet” takes place on Friday 28 March, 2024 at 7pm (doors open at 6.30pm), St James’ Church, Hollincross Lane, Glossop SK13 8JQ.
