Introducing A Local Winter Story Trail...

January 26, 2023

Here's how you can get involved with this year's story trail!

A Local Winter Story Trail is dedicated to the achievements of Hilary Mantel, who grew up in the area and leaves a literary legacy to rival any modern great. We want her memory to inspire the next generation of authors in our town to take inspiration from their doorstep.

First- Pick up a map from any of your local bookshops- George Street Books, Oxfam Books or Dark Peak Books. they are also available at Glossop Library and KIN.DER creative space. If you can't get to these spots during opening hours, you can download a printable version of the map below.

Use the map to find the feature businesses, with specially commissioned stories based at each location. You can imagine the story unfolding before your eyes and let your imagination run wild along the High Street! Each story contains a hidden word, fill in the blank spaces on the map to reveal a hidden poem by local author Mark Henderson. There's also space on the map to write your own tale or illustrate an existing one. Submit your effort to hello@glossopcreates.com and a winner will receive a £20 book voucher from Dark Peak Books!

Listen to the stories, narrated by the authors themselves and special guest actors like comedian Toby Hadoke and actor Isobel Middleton, who has starred in the Harry Potter films.

This trail will instigate a new literary and performative creative network in the town, creating opportunities for future collaborations, festivals and events, connecting writers to institutions that can showcase their talents. If you are a writer or performer, get in touch to learn about how you can join the network!

We hope that this trail will become an annual event, getting bigger and better each year, giving the people of our town the creative experiences that they deserve!
