By Clare Isherwood, Glossop Arts Project
Friends of Victoria Hall has commissioned Glossop Arts Project to produce a display commemorating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee 2022 for Victoria Hall's wonderful windows - and the inside - as an exhibition.
The Arts Council released its "Let's Create Jubilee Fund", from the National Lottery to "empower community organisations to work collaboratively with artists and cultural organisations in a way they might not have before, to produce creative events that are driven by them and highlight their ideas and creativity." - The funding was distributed nationwide and on to Derbyshire via charity, Foundation Derbyshire, which thankfully accepted our bid to fund the project.
We teamed up with the creative forces Lauren Riley and Richard Knox at KIN.DER to produce vinyl reproductions of GAP's participant artwork, which has now been installed in the windows.
GAP's participants have also created a commemorative bunting display for Victoria Hall using textiles, which allowed freedom of creativity within all of GAP's groups from age 14 upwards - as well as our adults with additional needs group, Hands on Art.
Our young people's groups, Mind the GAP aged 11-18, are also producing a commemorative mosaic piece that will be on permanent display in Victoria Hall as a reminder of the occasion.
To celebrate all of our collaborative achievements, FOVH and GAP are holding a Tea Party on Monday 6th June from 1 - 4:30pm where local people can enjoy all work on display, find out more about the heritage of Victoria Hall via Glossop Heritage Trust and enjoy lots of homemade cakes and jubilee activities!
