Broadbottom-based band SWIM are diving into the local music scene with the release of their debut single, Space Opera 1975, and a 15-song set at the Harewood Arms.
SWIM describe themselves as fairground horror space rock, drawing on personal musical, art and film influences to create something that doesn't want to be put in a box. The band comprises singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Gary Phethean, Max Elliott on funky bass and bass synth, Clare de Lune on lead synth and floaty vocals and writer and producer Paul O'Brien, who delivers spacey guitar riffs and synth.
Space Opera 1975 is now available for free on all streaming platforms.
The single was recorded and produced by SWIM in Broadbottom, and features a remix titled Space Opera 1975 (Remix 1985). The artwork is by local artist Mike Lee.
The band will perform the new single, plus a selection of other songs at a Live Music & Real Ale evening at the Harewood Arms on Saturday 21st May.
Greenmill Brewery, the micro-brewery in the basement of the pub, will be selling a limited edition ale branded Space Opera 1975 to promote the single.
Pub managers Angie and Mark have been supporting local musicians, hosting regular live music events in the Harewood. They said: "The Harewood is the heart of the community and we want to showcase the musical talent from in and around the village. There is a real mix of music, with something for fans of all genres and ages."
Tigellae will also be serving Italian woodfired pizza from their kiosk at the pub between 5pm and 9pm. They take bookings via Facebook messenger or on 07503 078288. The Harewood Arms evening is free entry and starts at 8.30pm.
