SWIM ANNOUNCES GLOSSOP GIG!

January 26, 2023

Following the huge success of their May gig at The Harewood Arms, Broadbottom, local band SWIM have another live musical extravaganza in the pipeline - this time at The Globe, Glossop, on Saturday 24th September.

SWIM is a four piece outfit who all hail from Broadbottom and the surrounding area. They describe themselves and their musical style as Fairground Horror Space Rock. They wrote together in the shadows of the lockdowns, and continue to make original music from their rehearsal studio.

Their songs are written collectively. Lead vocalist and drummer Gary Phethean improvises melodies and lyrics led by stream of consciousness, Paul O'Brien delivers spacey guitar riffs and synth, Max Elliott is on funky bass and bass synth, and Clare de Lune plays lead synth and provides the floaty vocals.

As well as planning the Globe gig, SWIM has a new single in the pipeline too. The band will release Supernatural Love in October (date to be announced) which will stream on all platforms, and will follow on from their debut single Space Opera 1975 which was released earlier this year.

Deggy from The Globe said: "The Globe is one of those old-school venues that has an atmosphere that has developed over time. Not many of these venues still stand. From dancehall legend Desmond Dekker to modern day hard rock powerhouses Florence Black, and Manchester indie giants The Courteeners,, everyone has passed through here at some point and it's why The Globe is the best venue in Glossop for live music, and it's still going strong."

Clare commented: "Glossop has a growing cultural scene, made possible by a community that is willing to support it. A scene is an ecosystem that relies on a network of artists, musicians, promoters and audiences to keep it thriving. Broadbottom is a great example of a creative community that does just this, with a booming arts makers' market, and a collection of bands and musicians (including Shake Rag, Jackdaw and Calico), who share their ideas, equipment and enthusiasm with each other. Supporting grassroots venues such as The Globe Glossop, as both a musician and a gig-goer, is vital for a creative community to evolve and create a scene with real staying power."
