Carrot Productions was founded in 2013 by Glossop musicians, Rachel and Daniel Whibley, following performances of The Snowman with live orchestra staged at St James’s Church and Glossopdale Community College. They gathered together their friends and colleagues – most of whom lived within a 5 mile radius of Glossop – from professional orchestras including the BBC Philharmonic and Hallé. They are now the world’s leading performers of The Snowman film with live orchestra, an accolade also attributed to their performances of Wallace & Gromit’s Musical Marvels, thanks to exclusive rights and partnership granted by Aardman in 2019. They have staged a total of 260 shows since 2013, reaching over 220,000 people. With a passion to innovate across many art forms, they commission a range of artists to create exciting new shows for families, always placing the orchestra at the forefront of the experience. Commissions include an animation to accompany The Nutcracker Suite, and an animated film of the award-winning book by David Litchfield, The Bear and the Piano, with original score by Daniel Whibley, and narration recorded by Joanna Lumley. Carrot Productions’ principle aim is to make world-class performance available to all, no matter their financial situation or disability. As such, they have staged 90 schools’ performances, 2 relaxed schools’ performances, 7 relaxed family performances and 3 in Manchester Children’s Hospital. In response to the limitations of live music posed by Covid-19, Rachel recently created Schooltime Showtime, an exciting package for schools to enjoy the thrill of The Snowman Tour safely from within their schools or home, alongside an array of additional resources and activities.
