Ghislaine Howard

Glossop, UK

Artists, crafts & makers

Ghislaine Howard is an internationally respected painter, named as a Woman of the Year 2008 for her contribution to art and society. Her paintings and drawings chart and interpret shared human experience, the movement of the body and the gestures that communicate our feelings. The art critic, Sister Wendy Becket wrote of her work that ‘Howard clearly loves what she paints, and what she paints is in itself, love also’. She exhibits widely, and has had shown at many prestigious venues including Manchester Art Gallery, Canterbury Cathedral, Imperial War Museum North and the Wellcome Foundation. Her work may be found in many public and private collections including the Royal Collection. Ghislaine contributed to the award-winning film, Degas and the Dance and she was the only living artist to be represented in the British Museum’s groundbreaking exhibition Ice Age Art: Arrival of the Modern Mind she also features in a film made to accompany the exhibition entitled The Female Gaze. A permanent exhibition of her work is due to open in the beautiful Victorian rooms of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce early next year.
