GLOSSOPERA

Glossop, UK

Musicians & live acts

GLOSSOPERA was established in 2013 by Glossop-based opera singer and singing teacher, Claire Surman, with the aim of bringing world-class operatic music and lighter classics to Glossop and the surrounding area. Claire brings international soloists who have sung at principal level with national and international opera companies and orchestras to the High Peak to perform in concerts, charity and corporate events, and private bookings for family celebrations and events. As Artistic Director, Claire adopts a non-stuffy approach, and strives to create performances which appeal to opera aficionados and newbies, alike. She is keen to make opera accessible for all, and GLOSSOPERA performances are renowned for combining superb musicianship with an enormous sense of fun. GLOSSOPERA regularly perform at the Partington Theatre, Glossop and at the Spring Bank Arts Centre in New Mills. In stunning buildings, both the venues lend an intimate and uniquely atmospheric feel to performances (together with well stocked bars!) all helping to ensure a great night out. GLOSSOPERA’s popular, sell-out Christmas Operatic Galas, featuring operatic favourites, lighter show tunes, Christmas classics and seasonal silliness, have become a traditional part of the local Christmas calendar, with audience regulars saying that they are the highlight of the Christmas calendar and mark the beginning of Christmas. The events have been described as: ‘a feast for the ears, eyes and the heart - top class entertainment’ ‘a wonderful opportunity to see the amazing talent you would only normally expect to see in a national theatre so up-close and personal’ ‘a lovely family experience’ ‘total must for the newbies to this beautiful world of music - your company opened my eyes to a new world of music’ ‘highly enjoyable! Very funny performances’
