Two local bands are joining forces for an unforgettable evening of live music - which has been created in order to raise funds to save The Harewood Arms.
The Harewood Arms is a CAMRA award-winning establishment with its own Greenmill microbrewery, which attracts beer enthusiasts from far and wide. It is a key stop for walkers and bikers exploring the surrounding areas, who love the beautiful beer garden and the independent Italian wood-fired pizza kiosk, Tigellae, which is situated just outside. The local gem in Broadbottom has been a central part of the community for many years.
Grassroots campaign
The local community in Broadbottom has recently launched a grassroots campaign to raise funds to buy the pub - which has just been listed as an Asset of Community Value by Tameside Council. So far, the team has raised £119,000, in pledges to buy community shares. The aim is to buy the pub with these community shares, donations and grants and run the venue as a Community Pub.
A Community Pub is owned and run democratically by members of the community. Community pubs actively encourage individuals from the community to become members by purchasing membership shares, the cost of which are set at an accessible level that most of the community will be able to afford.
Live Music Event
The live music night on 2nd November featuring two local bands – SWIM and Calico – who have generously volunteered to perform in order to raise more funds for the cause.
Broadbottom band SWIM infuses space rock with a darker edge, blending cinematic, synth-driven atmospheres with moody lyrics, powerful choruses and dramatic riffs. Hailing from Broadbottom and Droylsden, and sharpened in the vibrant music scene of Manchester, their sound is explosive and highly charged.
Born in the Peak District and refined in the many venues of Manchester and Leeds, Calico fuses pop hooks, catchy melodies, and blissful harmonies with elements of jazz, trip hop, and neo soul.
The event will take place at The Magdalene Centre in Broadbottom. A full bar is available, and the live music begins at 7.30pm until 11.00pm, with acoustic support act John Susan & Susan John performing gothic Americana at the event opening. Over 14s only. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
