Galleries and Studios in Glossop

Glossopdale is home to a thriving independent art scene, from creative studios and commercial galleries, to unique venues and outdoor murals, there’s something here for all artistic tastes.

If you’re looking to invest in a beautiful piece of original art, or are on the lookout for a unique gift,  look no further than The Artful Pigeon Gallery, based on High Street West. The gallery exhibits an exciting collection of work from artists and contemporary craftspeople from Glossopdale, Derbyshire and throughout the north of England.

As you’re walking down Glossop high street make sure to look out for the incredible mural of Vivienne Westwood: A stunning new piece of street art, bringing a burst of colour to the town, to commemorate Vivienne’s incredible legacy. The mural was created in 2022 by local artist Deggy.

Fancy creating your own masterpiece? Get yourself booked on to a workshop at KIN.DER, where you can learn to print, paint, draw, craft and more. KIN.DER is a flexible, multi-use, co-run, creative space hosting exhibitions, markets, meetings, a print studio and shop. The KIN.DER pop-up shop is open weekly, so pop-in and browse their wonderful display of design-led gifts and artwork created by local artists and makers. The print studio and shop is run by Richard Knox (Dark Peak Press) and designer, printer and researcher Lauren Riley.

If KIN.DER has left you feeling inspired to keep creating, why not take the short trip from Glossop to Hadfield and stop by The Craft Barn? The Craft Barn is a community arts & crafts venue situated in the heart of Hadfield, providing a welcoming space for people young and old to enjoy their creative passions through creative experiences and workshops. Whilst you’re there, make sure to see what’s on display at The Wall in the Barn. The Wall in the Barn is an exhibition space upstairs in The Craft Barn, showcasing an eclectic mix of exhibitions featuring established professional artists and exceptionally gifted amateurs.

If you’re coming back from your workshop at The Craft Barn on the train, make sure to step into the Glossop Station Waiting Room Art Gallery after arriving at the station. Since its inception in 2015 the Waiting Room Art Gallery has hosted over 30 displays by local artists. The Waiting Room is open every day from the start of service to around 18.30 and is managed by Friends of Glossop Station.

Glossop is a town filled with artists, and as well as a growing selection of galleries and creative venues to see, there are plenty of studios to pay a visit.  Right on the high street you’ll find Simon Parkin Studio Gallery, displaying a large selection of paintings inspired by the Peak District and seascapes inspired by trips to Wales and Scotland. Studio visits can be arranged by appointment with Simon. If having a nosey around a studio and supporting local artists is your thing, why not visit over the May Bank Holiday for Derbyshire Open Arts? The open studio weekend is an annual event where plenty of local artists and crafts people throw open their doors to the public! Read more about the event over on our Glossopdale Festivals blog!

Glossop’s offerings of galleries and creative spaces is constantly evolving, and we will make sure to update this post as new venues and studios open their doors to showcase more local talent.  Have we missed anywhere in town and surrounding villages? Let us know so we can make sure they are included.
