A cuppa with... Bethany O'Toole, owner of Glossop Wholefoods

January 26, 2023

In our new series, we talk to Glossop independent shop, business and venue owners to find out more about their venture and to discover what they love about our lovely home town!

First up, we chat to business owner, vegan champion and all round eco-warrior, Bethany O'Toole of Glossop Wholefoods...

Tell us about your business...

Glossop Wholefoods is a fully plant-based store with a real push for low waste and environmentally sustainable products. We stock a wide array of food and drink, toiletries, good quality wine and beer, supplements and more!

We are on a mission to bring Glossop shoppers the very best in wholesome and nutritious food and household products from many favourite ethical and planet saving brands. We cater for a range of different lifestyles and requirements, so you'll find plenty of organic, gluten free and free-from products in store.

We are located handily (and beautifully) in the old Co-op building on Norfolk Square in Glossop.

What makes your business unique?

We're fully plant based and do our best to stock products in as little plastic packaging as possible. We have a full zero waste section with dispensers for you to fill up your own containers. We stock a plethora of different local produce and love to support as many smaller suppliers as possible.

How do you feel about the future of the town and what would you like to see happen in Glossop?

Glossop has a huge potential to be a hub of high-quality indie shops and places to eat and drink. There's a great range of talent locally, and I feel with the right funding the town could really thrive.

I'm really excited for the food and drink hall in the old market; if it's anything like Altrincham market, we're onto a winner!

What inspires you about Glossop?

The people of Glossop are truly loyal to the Glossop high street and are so keen to support independent businesses. We're so lucky to have a shop here.

Could you recommend to our readers three local businesses that you love and why?

Oh there's so many amazing local businesses, it's hard to choose!

If we have to pick, we'd say Pixie Bakes in Tintwistle, which makes THE best cakes for gluten free and vegans, Essentialiese for the beautiful candles, which are vegan, eco friendly and smell incredible. And lastly, Ayubowan - the best vegan buffet once a month!
