Ghislaine Howard produces limited edition print for Manchester Art Fair

January 26, 2023

Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce will be opening its doors to art lovers this weekend to coincide with Manchester Art Fair.

The Chamber's historic city centre offices are home to a collection of paintings by Ghislaine Howard, who is one of the artists featured in this year's Art Fair, which is being held at Manchester Central from 4th-6th November. The Chamber will be open on Saturday 5th from 10.00 - 6.30pm and on Sunday 6th, from 11.00 - 4.30pm.

Manchester Art Fair - headed up by Glossop's Thom Hetherington - is one of the UK's most ambitious art fairs, selling modern and contemporary paintings, sculpture, photography and editioned prints from a selection of UK and international galleries. Ghislaine will be taking part in an interview and Q&A session at the Fair at 11am Sunday, 6th November

Along with the renowned Manchester artists, Stanley Chow and Simon Buckley, Ghislaine has been asked to produce a print especially for the occasion. The three works will be on sale at the Fair as edition prints of 50 priced at £50 each with a proportion of the money raised going to charity. Ghislaine is internationally recognised as a powerful and expressive painter, whose work charts and interprets our shared experience.

Ghislaine said: "My print is called 'Urban Dog'. It's a simple image of a dog in the city, pursuing its parallel existence, walking past a car. It grew out of one of the paintings from my '365 Series' which I make each day from the news media. Whatever human affairs were apparently newsworthy that day, the dog moves on, intent on its own concerns. I made the painting only a few weeks ago and it suggested so many things... and seemed very apposite for the Manchester Art Fair."

The money raised from the sale of the print will go to 'Acting on Impulse', a Manchester-based charity which does fantastic work helping to give homeless and marginalised people a voice through film and theatre.

Ghislaine added: "It's a marvellous opportunity for visitors to the Fair and for those just enjoying a stroll through the city centre an opportunity to visit the Chamber's iconic building and to view over 100 of my works in two specially curated installations, one by myself and Michael, my art historian husband and the other curated by the Creative Directors of Haigh Hall, acclaimed filmmakers and artists"
