Glossop Arts Project - Projecting love and light for Glossop’s festive celebrations

January 26, 2023

Artists from KIN.DER have worked in collaboration with Glossop Arts Project to produce a light animation that will run alongside the Winter Art Trail, launching on Saturday 27th November.

The animation, which was developed during a series of workshops at Victoria Hall with different Glossop Arts Project groups, will be featured in the RSPCA shop window on Norfolk Square - a focal point in the centre of town for Glossop's Christmas celebrations.

Local video editor and animator Owain Paciuszko has animated the light installation, taking the drawings produced at the GAP workshops and bringing them to life, The result is a truly collaborative work, encompassing a wide range of skills and abilities, working together to create something special.

This is in the same spirit as the wider Love Glossop Winter Art Trail, which gives artists from the whole spectrum of career stage and profile the same platform.

The animation is taken from a series of black and white line illustrations, drawn on paper with Sharpie markers - the original medium that the Glossop Art Project group created the images in. The starting point that the groups were given for the illustrations was a poem by local author Mark P Henderson. The results are charming depictions of our town and playful scenes. The line drawings will also be immortalised onto tote bags and featured in the windows of KIN.DER.

This poem was commissioned by Glossop Creates for its Winter Art Trail, and you can uncover it by following the trail (pick up a map from KIN.DER from Saturday 27th November!) and discovering the words hidden within the 24 windows.

Clare Isherwood from Glossop Arts Project said: "Our groups have been so pleased to be part of Glossop's festive celebrations, and this just shows what we can achieve when we work together.

"Glossop Arts Project is a not-for-profit community-based project bringing art to life for the people in Glossop. We offer creative sessions within a stimulating atmosphere to promote freedom of artistic expression, enhance social inclusion and wellbeing. Our welcoming, friendly and inclusive principles inspire people to try new activities, learn and improve skills, and build self-confidence.

"The animation art was completed by groups that look at arts for wellbeing, and it's glorious to see the work brought to life in this way."

The Glossop Arts Project animation will launch tonight on 27th November, to coincide with the Christmas Lights Switch on and and the launch of Glossop Creates' Love Glossop Winter Art Trail, which will bring the high street to life with art over the festive season.
