News from Glossop Creates:
- Glossop will be a creative hub for the Derbyshire Makes festival.
- Glossop Creates is a lead partner on the High Peak LCEP, which will see education and young people embedded into our programmes, including The Living Room and a young producers programme.
- We introduced Glossop’s Living Room and invited members of the network to submit stories, media and other content.
- Clare Savory has developed the Longdendale Tales Humap Site as part of her Glossop Creates Pairings Residency. You can listen to Clare’s 28 part Longdendale Tale podcast series here.

We discussed how businesses and individuals can make the most of Glossop Creates’ website and social channels as a promotional tool, adding your events to our What’s On page, listings to the Community section and ideas, stories and thoughts to our blog. We encourage submissions and ideas for our Things To Do page, so when people search ‘things to do in Glossop’, they are greeted with a page full of curated highlights where you can see the best of the town, through a local lens.
We have a weekly slot in the Glossop Chronicle and so encourage our businesses and creative practitioners to submit stories and content that we can feature to the town’s audience.

Support:
During the meeting, we made the network aware that Glossop Creates also offers mentoring and support, where we give people access to amazing individuals and professionals who can guide and advise their practice. We talked about our Pairings Artist Residencies, where we pair artists with businesses, issues or landmarks that are integral to Glossop’s identity.
- The Big House CDI Grant supports businesses in the Creative and Digital Industries sector in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire to start and grow. Grants of between £1000 and £2500 are available.

- Too Inspired to be Tired, a Wander Walk celebrating Dame Vivienne Westwood's legacy with a catwalk around Glossop streets will take place on the 13th of May. Tickets will be available on our eventbrite soon.
- Land Marks is a new visual and audio body of work by Richard Knox that explores gestural and experimental textures using ink and sound.
Land Marks features 20 new pieces of monoprint work and takes place at KIN.DER in Glossop, Derbyshire. Opening on Saturday May 20th for one day, Richard will perform a live solo guitar set in the evening, the exhibition will then re-open on May 27th through to May 29th as part of Derbyshire Open Arts.

- Richard and Claire Knox will be performing their Bleaklow project at The Peer Hat in Manchester on the 13th of September.
Bleaklow is made of Claire Knox and Richard Knox (A-Sun Amissa / Shield Patterns etc). The duo create distorted and billowing songs from fractured melodies and crumbling ambient drones. Using minimal instrumentation, 4 track recorders and field recordings, Bleaklow’s sound is a hypnotic swoon, moving between fragile spacious notes and blown out ethereal noise. Richard and Clare have an EP coming in June and live shows to announce soon too.

Call outs for network support:
- The Globe are looking to work with artists and organisers interested in putting on events at their venue, particularly those involved in different genres to expand their offering.
- Clare Savory is looking for artists, musicians, poets and performers to work with as her Longdendale Tales project develops into a live experience along the reservoirs.
- Gloss Fest are looking for more venues and musicians to complement the main festival programme. Contact info@glossopmusicfestival.org.uk to get involved.
- Matt Hill is looking for music venues in Glossop to support his Rural Touring/Live and Local project.
- Partington Theatre expressed their interest in becoming used more widely by the community. Get in touch to see how you may be able to work with them. Their performance venues can hold up to 120 people.

Sector challenges:
Promotion and visibility of local musicians to a wider, regional and national audience was highlighted by the network as a key challenge.
Ideas suggested included:
- Creating a Glossop Creates music playlist.

- Or as a network member, you can add to the playlist yourself here.
- We will regularly platform and promote this playlist to our audience so our town understands the variety and scale of the local musical talent here.
- Live streaming set up, camera on town hall to stream events taking place in Norfolk Square.
- Partington Theatre suggested the need for a digital marquee at the town hall. A public space for performances to be streamed live to increase visibility.

If you would like to present a project, talk about your work, what you do, or perform, then let us know! You will have an audience of 50 or so people from the performance and music sector as a captive audience!
Next time we will:
- Revisit the ideas suggested to increase promotion and visibility.
- Bring in some partner organisations who are interested in events in Glossop, like Grub Manchester.
- Bring leaders from existing events programmes in the town, like Jane Fletcher (who runs the Glossop Xmas Light Switch On), Glossop Round Table and Glossop Rotary to make sure they know where the local talent is and how to include it in their programming.
- Bring members from High Peak Borough Council to the meeting to listen to how the council can support you in creating a cultural, vibrant Glossop.
